Internet of Energy - Applications

Today, we face the electrification of the various propulsion and transmission systems and the increased use of electric systems, electronic components, electric machines, power electronic converters, batteries, ultracapacitors, sensors, and microcontrollers.

Disruptive technologies like electromobility have the potential to change markets dramatically. Electric drives for cars are the catalyst for the real change, while the architecture and role of information and communications technology (ICT) will change the vehicle of the future.

ICT in the form of electrics and electronics in cars (automotive E/E), communication technologies and software, is growing increasingly important and will come to drive developments itself. ICT is also essential to the competitiveness of the automotive industry. The use of electric motors has the advantages of higher energy conversion efficiency, fast, accurate motor torque generation and measurement. In addition, the motors can be installed in two or four wheels and motor torque can be known and controlled precisely.

The goal is building fundamental technologies to enable intelligent electronics applications, by means of research concerning software, mechatronics, embedded systems and nanoelectronics for vehicle platform electrification innovation.

The development of mechatronic systems for electric, hybrid and fuel cell based vehicles involves finding an optimal balance between the basic mechanical structure, sensor and actuator implementation, automatic digital information processing and overall electronic control for which embedded systems play a central role.
